Battle Point Osprey Nest

1 comment:

  1. This is the Watertower at Battle Point Park on Bainbridge Island, the site of a WWII Navy Base. A pair of ospreys have been nesting on part of the tower for years, and it is amazing to watch them return to the nest with salmon to feed the fledglings. The day my plein air group painted at the park, the nest was on the ground and the birds were doing their cries and flapping their wings!
Dorothy Matthews wrote a letter to Islander along with my painting, and reported our dismay at the situation. The Bainbridge Parks wrote a follow up letter stating that they would never remove the nest, and that they thought a heavy wind blew the nest down. Hopefully the pair will rebuild and enjoy many more years in their tower home. Who says plein air isn't fun!
