  1. Julie Speidel recently had a marvelous installation of her glacier metal art sculptures at The Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island. When I first saw the bright colored objects "intruding" into the peaceful vignettes of Bloedel, I was very put off. A second visit allowed me to calm down, and to appreciate the sensitivity and intention of the artist. The natural spaces were actually able to hold their own and seemed enhanced by showing off the playful and complicated intruders.

This was a very appropriate show, as Bloedel opens more to the public, and finds way to attract us to this unique environment again, and again. I dedicate this painting to Julie, and thank her for stretching me and increasing my acceptance for what is new and alive! My spouse, Anne, wanted to name the painting "Epoch".
I am not there yet, but someday?

  2. I love the sculptures and their justaposition in the landscape- hard surfaces against the softness of the plantings.
