I was searching for examples of a single geranium in a pot, and totally related to a lovely painting by Matisse. What I experienced from copying this image was to start with the relationship of large shapes, and to then fill in the backgrounds and other details. Also, it does not have to be a totally accurate copy of objects, shadows etc., which means the viewer gets to fill in these details for themselves, and have their own emotional experience and connection, as I did with the original. This resulted in a colorful and happy painting, and a heightened appreciation for the Master. (12" x 9") NFS
